Malmaison Edinburgh

Insite Contracts recently completed a £313,000 external refurbishment of the historic Malmaison hotel in Leith. Originally built as an 1883 Seamen’s Mission, the luxury destination required careful, highly skilled restoration to protect its striking Victorian architecture from the harsh coastal weather of the Firth of Forth.

Delivered across a 20-week timeline, which included a crucial four-week variation to secure and pin loose masonry copes, the comprehensive envelope restoration featured specialist stone cleaning, window conservation, and the refurbishment of period-accurate cast-iron rainwater goods. The scope also included extensive roof repairs and the installation of a new high-performance flat roof system.

Led by Contract & Site managers Lee Westerman and Russell Dick, the project integrated Insite Joiners and Insite Cladding & Roofing alongside specialist partners Premier Roofing and Cosmos Decorators. Despite the logistical challenges of operating within a live hotel environment, the team successfully revitalised the historic facade and secured the building’s long-term structural integrity with minimal disruption to guests.
