Summary

Insite Contracts recently completed a complex structural engineering project at Glasgow’s Grade B listed 95 Bothwell Street. Delivered on behalf of our client, MAPP, the intricate works required the design and installation of a new steel flue system extending from the basement, up through the first floor, and terminating at roof level, all while preserving the historic building’s architectural integrity.

The primary challenge of the project was the extremely confined working environment, as the entire vertical installation had to be executed within a restrictive 3.5m x 3.5m footprint. To overcome these spatial constraints and safely navigate the narrow shaft, the team utilized specialized lifting solutions, employing Minifor Hoists mounted on Nikko Beams. This allowed for the high-precision removal of existing structures and the seamless installation of heavy steel components without disrupting wider building operations.

Led by Davie Stewart of Insite Contracts, the successful delivery of this highly technical project was driven by seamless collaboration among key stakeholders. Working closely with client representatives Jonathan McConnell and Emma Rafferty at MAPP, alongside structural engineers Will Rudd (Andrew Yule and Matthew Pieroni) and M&E consultants KJ Tait (Alistair Black and Andy McFarlane), the team safely and efficiently modernized the infrastructure of one of Glasgow’s most recognizable landmarks.
