Pioneering Industry Standards: Insite Specialist Services Launches Scotland’s First SCQF Level 6 Water Damaged Buildings Course

Insite Specialist Services, our specialised division of Insite Group, has achieved a landmark milestone with its comprehensive Water Damaged Buildings Course receiving official SCQF Level 6 Qualification Status from Qualifications Scotland.

This accreditation marks the first-ever qualification of its kind in Scotland, setting a new benchmark for technical excellence, safety, and compliance across the property and restoration sectors.
Raising the Bar in Building Remediation & Compliance
With heightened regulatory focus on living conditions, respiratory health, and compliance with standards such as Awaab’s Law, property managers, housing associations, and remediation specialists face increasing pressure to address moisture and mould issues with scientific precision.
Designed specifically for professionals actively managing building remediation, the newly accredited qualification bridges the gap between basic awareness and advanced, evidence-based restoration practices. The programme equips practitioners with the technical expertise required to safely diagnose, monitor, and restore properties affected by water intrusion, persistent dampness, and microbial contamination.

Comprehensive, Science-Based Curriculum
Grounded in the extensive Water Damaged Buildings – Training & Reference Manual, the SCQF Level 6 syllabus covers critical technical modules essential for modern building pathology:
Moisture in Buildings: In-depth water damage awareness, accurate interpretation of moisture measurements, root-cause intrusion diagnostics, and thermodynamic drying principles.
Ventilation & Air Quality: Principles of airflow, domestic ventilation system analysis, noise considerations, and moisture management to maintain healthy indoor air quality.
Mould Awareness & Remediation: The microbiology of fungi, health risks associated with damp environments, mycotoxin cleanup, containment procedures, and direct alignment with Awaab’s Law compliance.
Verification, Validation & Certification: Rigorous testing protocols, empirical validation of structural drying, and standards for issuing formal decontamination and drying certificates.
Health, Safety & Compliance: Full regulatory guidance on COSHH, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), and technical PPE application.

Gordon Bruce, Founder & Director, Insite Specialist Services, said of the Qualification:
